Brought home nearly $6 million for infrastructure projects across Alabama's 2nd District to improve roads, ports, and water and sewage systems.

The roots
Raised to serve.
For Shomari, Alabama is home. It is where he was raised in his grandfather's church and educated from kindergarten to law school. After graduating from John L. LeFlore High School, he went on to the University of Alabama, where he then followed in his father's footsteps into the university's law school.
Shomari's parents inspired him to dedicate his life to advocating for the people of Alabama. His father, Michael Figures, was a State Senator and lawyer who fought for over two decades to expand rights for Black people in Mobile and across Black Belt Alabama. His mother, Vivian Figures, served on the Mobile City Council, currently serves as a State Senator, and has worked to protect women's rights and improve health and education in Alabama.

Shomari is the proud husband of a former school teacher and strong advocate for our communities, Dr. Kalisha Dessources Figures, and father of four: Micah, Novah, Zorah and Erzah.
It's that next generation, and every family across Alabama's 2nd District, that drives his work: better schools, accessible healthcare, good jobs, and communities where every child can grow up safe and supported.

Federal law clerk & the Obama campaign
Served as a law clerk for the federal court, then worked on President Barack Obama's campaign, the start of a career in national public service.
The White House & the Affordable Care Act
Worked in the White House as Domestic Director of Presidential Personnel, and supported the implementation of policies and legislation like the Affordable Care Act from the ground up, improving the lives of thousands in Alabama.
The Justice Department & Congress
Served as White House Liaison at the Department of Justice alongside Loretta Lynch, then as Counsel in Congress. He worked on the Biden-Harris transition team, then served as Deputy Chief of Staff and Counselor for Attorney General Merrick Garland.
Alabama is home. It is where I was raised in my grandfather's church, and where I learned that service isn't a title, it's a responsibility.
